Bio
Gil Hoy brings an independent and experienced voice to the Board of Selectmen that needs to be heard.
Dedicated to Brookline, Gil Hoy is currently serving his fourth term as a Selectman. He previously served on the Town’s Advisory Committee and as a Town Meeting Member from Precinct 12.
Gil Hoy grew up in Brookline. After graduating from the Heath School and Brookline High School, Gil received a Bachelor’s Degree, magna cum laude, from Boston University in Political Science. He later received a Master’s Degree in Government from Georgetown University and a Law Degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Gil Hoy is not afraid to stand up for what is right. Whether protecting a citizen’s civil rights in his role as a Police Commissioner, working to ensure that all of our citizens are able to participate in the decision making process, supporting zoning changes that will protect our neighborhoods in Coolidge Corner, or enforcing the Town’s underage drinking laws, Hoy is an independent voice who often stands alone.
Gil Hoy has the experience that we need. During his twelve years as a Selectman, Gil has made it a priority to work on providing open and transparent government and improving upon our schools and services. Gil is proud of what the Town has accomplished during these past twelve years. During that time, Gil chaired the Town’s Green Technology Committee, which authored a Town By-Law requiring “green” considerations in capital projects and he sits on Brookline’s Town/School Partnership Committee. Gil worked hard on making the Senior Center a reality, and he chaired the Town’s Main Library Project Oversight Committee in connection with the main library renovation. Gil also negotiated Cable License contracts for the Town, bringing several million dollars in additional revenue to Brookline.
Currently, Gil Hoy is working on continuing his efforts in chairing the Green Technology Committee to make our Town a leader in energy efficiency and conservation. He is also working to protect our senior citizens and disabled persons, increase our commercial tax base to bring additional tax revenue to the Town, enact State laws and policy that helps our Town, and other important matters.
Gil Hoy learned the value of public service and education here in Brookline from his family. He is the son of Chobee Hoy, a well known philanthropic and civic leader in our community.
Gil lives on Reservoir Road in Precinct 13 with his wife Fran, of nearly 25 years, who is also a Precinct 13 Town Meeting Member and the Campaign Treasurer, and their three children, Sarah, Charlton and Clifton, who all attend or attended the Brookline Public Schools.
